“We have a sustainability strategy and have been producing sustainability reports for several years. As a listed company, we must do these things. We are aligned with the legislative requirements in our field of activity and with those at the general level.

We voluntarily carried out the reporting on the risks and opportunities related to climate change, according to the TCFD recommendations. We are signatories of the UN Global Compact and the Diversity Charter. For us it is something important. Last year, we counted 34 nationalities within the group and diversity plays an important role for us,” Andrada Busuioc, Communication Director, Sphera Franchise Group said during Sustainability in Business Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest and Sustainability-Today.

“We started calculating our carbon footprint since 2019, location-based for Scope 1 and Scope 2. We plan to calculate this footprint for Scope 3 as well, but we have to keep in mind that our business is very complex, we work with many suppliers. We have over 300 suppliers and it is a very complex process to calculate the footprint on Scope 3.

Last year, we managed to reduce our carbon footprint per restaurant. At KFC, we reduced our energy consumption by 1.400 MW, given that most of the restaurants we opened were in the KFC network.

There is no level playing field. There are only a few companies that make sustainability reports, given that the regulations target many more companies. We have regulation, but we don’t really have enforcement. The costs of compliance are high, and we would at least like to have some incentives for these efforts.”
