Transelectrica, TAQA, Meridiam, and E-INFRA welcome the successful completion of the feasibility study for the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) interconnector linking the Black Sea to Hungary.

Conducted by CESI, the study confirms both the technical feasibility and economic rationale for the planned underground transmission system. The project is supported by the Romanian Ministry of Energy and aligns with European objectives to enhance grid resilience and integrate renewable sources.

The HVDC interconnector is a key step in strengthening regional energy networks and enabling the transmission of renewable electricity from Romania to neighbouring countries. By using existing infrastructure corridors, the project is expected to reduce permitting timelines and environmental impact, while supporting a more efficient and reliable transmission system.

The consortium remains committed to advancing the project in coordination with national and European stakeholders, building on the positive outcomes of the study and in line with Romania’s long-term energy goals.
