RetuRO, the administrator of the Guarantee-Return System, announces that by the end of December 2023 it will make available to merchants a free application that will facilitate the return and manual collection of SGR packaging.

The application will be accessible to traders who have signed the contract with RetuRO and opted for manual collection. This will allow users to scan the SGR packaging returned by consumers, which will have the “Packaging with guarantee” logo and the specific barcode printed on the label, being thus automatically validated as part of the SGR Packaging Register. Also, merchants who have opted for manual collection will be able to use the “pick-up” function of the application to make an order to pick up the bags of collected packaging from the declared return point. In order to make collection flows more efficient, the collection of SGR packaging can only be requested when a minimum of three bags are collected.

The application developed by RetuRO, together with Sensoneo, can be downloaded on mobile devices both in the iOS version, from the App Store, and in the Android version, from Google Play. Users will be able to identify the application both by the RetuRO logo, already known, and by the name of the application, “RetuRO”. The login process in the app is simple. Login to the application using a valid user (merchant) account from the portal.returosgr.ro platform.

After logging into the app, the next step is to choose the declared return point. For this, merchants will use the point of sale ID they find in their user account on the platform. At the moment, the application is in the testing phase, and by the end of December it will be put into use for merchants who have completed the registration in the SGR platform and signed the contract with RetuRO. Along the way, new app features will be developed based on user feedback, which will also be available to merchants for free.

RetuRO Sistem Garantie Returnare (www.returosgr.ro) is a company that operates on the not for profit principle – which means that any profit made by the company following the collection of beverage packaging will be reinvested, exclusively, in the development of SGR. The company was created by a consortium of three private shareholders: the Association of Romanian Brewers for the Environment (30%), the Association of Soft Drink Manufacturers for Sustainability (30%) and the Association of Retailers for the Environment (20%) and a public shareholder, the Romanian state, through the central environmental authority, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests (20%).

RetuRO, the SGR administrator, operates exclusively with private funding and has the role of ensuring transparency on the quantities of beverage packaging placed on the market and returned by consumers, contributing to the sustainable development of Romania, through the responsible management of packaging waste, in order to reach the targets of recycling imposed on Romania by the European Union.
