In line with its commitment to the sustainable development of its business, BAT continues the “Be a supplier” program launched in 2021, with the intention of developing its portfolio of innovative solutions and partnerships that contribute to the realization of the company’s ambition to build a better future. The two major directions of the 2024 edition of the program aim at developing innovative and efficient solutions to reduce waste and support the circular economy, as well as reducing water consumption and water reuse.

Interested companies and start-ups are invited to register on the BE SUPPLIER platform from 18 March 2024. The platform will remain available for registration for 6 weeks. Innovative and sustainable solutions proposals in waste management and water reduction will be highly valued and evaluated by a dedicated team within BAT against organizational business needs and criteria. Selected companies will then be invited to join BAT on the journey for a better future – A Better Tomorrow™. All registered companies will be considered for future consultations.

BAT Romania constantly invests in the development of solutions to achieve its sustainability objectives. The factory in Ploiesti, the second largest of the group in Europe and workplace for over 1,000 employees, is AWS certified for sustainable water consumption and has a recycling rate of around 85% of waste. The beginning of 2024 means an extra step in the sustainability journey of the factory in Ploiești, by installing around 1,000 photovoltaic panels on the roof of the production hall, as part of the commitment to the development of green energy sources.

Simon Brown, Area Operations Director for Southeast Europe at BAT, said: “BAT is taking decisive steps in its transformation journey and we are committed to building a company of the future where sustainability plays a leading role. We constantly invest in the development of innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of resource consumption and reduce the impact on the environment, in a process that primarily involves consistency and coherence. We also strongly believe in the power of contribution and are happy to invite new partners to develop innovative solutions to achieve our environmental protection goals.”

BAT began its journey in the field of sustainability more than 20 years ago, with results recognized by prestigious international institutions, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index or the Financial Times. The company recently published its annual combined business and sustainability performance report for the year 2023, which highlights the progress achieved in achieving its sustainability goals.
