Pursuing the organizational purpose “Always with you, building a more confident future”, MetLife focuses its efforts on building a safer and more sustainable future through its team, its financial protection products and services, and its investments.
At MetLife Group, sustainability is responsible business management and supporting people throughout their lives. To support advancing progress toward a sustainable future, MetLife has aligned its sustainability strategy with a subset of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals relevant to its business and established a set of specific commitments. “Our goal to contribute to a more sustainable and confident future inspires the entire MetLife team and generates long-term value for all parties involved. - Exceeding its commitment to attract $1 billion in investments that support diversity development, years ahead of its 2030 target, achieving more than $1.4 billion invested between 2021 and 2023;
- Reducing emissions by increasing energy efficiency and reducing its consumption within the premises, integrating fleets of electric vehicles into the business and reducing business trips, where possible;
- Allocating more than $58.5 billion in responsible investments through the MetLife General Account as of year-end 2023, with a focus on key areas of infrastructure, sustainable municipal bonds, affordable housing and impact investing;
- Exceeding $1 billion in donations from the MetLife Foundation, for its work that generates inclusive economic mobility and addresses the needs of underserved communities around the world;
- Completion of more than 144,000 volunteer hours globally in 2023, generated by the care and passion of our colleagues to give back to the community.
