DN AGRAR Group, the largest integrated livestock farm in Romania, leader in cow milk production, has published the 2023 sustainability report, detailing the organization’s ongoing approach and progress across each of the three pillars: environment, social impact, and governance.
Jan Gijsbertus de Boer, Chairman of the Board, CEO, DN AGRAR Group:
“At DN AGRAR, we endorse ESG initiatives through investments in advanced agricultural technologies and sustainable farming practices. For more than 15 years, we have consistently focused on animal welfare, soil quality conservation, and responsible waste management, and this is how we intend to grow. The optimization of our activities led to the reduction of fuel consumption and the automatization of certain operations within the milking process in two of our farms, resulting in the reduction of manual labor, with an impact in the coming years as well. Additionally, we expanded our manure collection and storage capacity by 60% and made significant progress on our compost factory, which will become operational in the third quarter of 2024.”
In 2023, DN AGRAR delivered approximately 55 million liters of milk as a result of a 20% increase in livestock. Through investments in consumption monitoring systems and energy-efficient equipment, the company achieved a 14% reduction in energy intensity, particularly in fuel usage.
The main investments in 2023 with a positive impact on the environment and animal welfare were:
- Automation of certain operations within the milking process through the installation of disinfection robots in two farms;
- Implementation of software dedicated to monitoring animal nutrition;
- Construction of new shelters for productive cows and young cattle;
- Installation of LED lighting systems and motion sensors in farms;
- Development of a new manure transportation system to the fields and expansion of manure collection and storage capacity;
- Installation of fuel cards for agricultural equipment;
- Implementation of a satellite crop monitoring system.
DN AGRAR continued to strengthen its governance framework by simplifying the Group’s structure and implementing SAP management and reporting systems, as well as IFRS, with a direct impact on decision-making and operational efficiency.
Regarding social impact and community involvement, DN AGRAR remains a significant supporter of the Maria Beatrice Association and its efforts to build the first Medical Campus dedicated to Premature Children in Romania, with a contribution of over RON 700,000 in 2023.
