NN contributes to the education of young people passionate about technology who are preparing for a future career in IT and supports them in developing knowledge, skills, and practical abilities from the early stages of their studies. As part of this mission, NN created NN SummerTech Camp, an intensive practical learning program dedicated to students from technical universities, through which it supports the development of future generations of IT specialists.

Through NN SummerTech Camp, NN offered students who are starting their final year at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest this fall the opportunity to practically apply the knowledge they have gained so far, experience what a job in an IT department entails, and develop a real project with applicability in the company’s operations. The program took place over the course of 10 weeks, from June 25 to August 30, 2024, during which participants completed 360 hours of practice, benefited from the support of mentors through workshops to develop essential skills, and worked alongside multidisciplinary teams to create an application from scratch with practical utility.

“NN SummerTech Camp represents a valuable practical experience and a real opportunity for young people to learn, experiment, and grow in a dynamic and collaborative environment, gaining a better understanding of the landscape and challenges in their field, and becoming more prepared for the first steps in their careers. IT is an extremely dynamic and relevant area, regardless of industry, and for us at NN, it is a key pillar in our broader strategy to transform into the digital insurer of the future. Such programs like NN SummerTech Camp in 2024 and NN Bootcamp in 2023 have real impact in young people’s education, contributing to the the practical training of the next generation of IT professionals, while helping us to better understand their needs and to learn from them. This motivates us not only to continue the programs in the coming years, but even to expand them into other areas within the company”, said Laura Uceanu, Chief Technology Officer at NN.

During the NN SummerTech Camp, participants engaged in activities to develop both the soft skills needed in the professional area and the technical skills, with access to Azure Fundamentals and Azure Data Fundamentals courses and the option for certification. Additionally, they developed an application designed to simplify and streamline project management within NN, following a complete process from requirements, analysis, design, to implementation, and testing, using a mix of technologies and technical solutions. The application optimizes workflows for the administration and coordination of projects from the perspective of initial estimates, providing an overview and the ability to view, add, and manage each project in real-time through a centralized, intuitive, and user-friendly interface.

“Together with colleagues and mentors, we developed a relevant solution and were able to contribute to NN’s broader digitalization efforts. For me, NN SummerTech Camp was a very useful experience in the transition from education to career, providing an essential opportunity to move from theory to practice, to apply the knowledge gained during my years of study, and to see how it translates into professional activities and challenges. The program offered me a framework where I could learn from real-life situations, develop my technical skills, and acquire valuable interpersonal abilities, serving as a cornerstone in my professional development and helping me to more clearly define the path towards the career I desire”, said Ioan Teodorescu, one of the students who participated in NN SummerTech Camp.
