Philips Romania continued this year the “Plant Together” campaign, together with Viitor Plus Association, in which they planted 1,700 new saplings in one of the localities undergoing desertification in southern Romania (Giubega, Dolj County).

The locality is located near the Oltenia Desert, an arid and sandy area that expands from year to year, due to the sands that are carried by the wind and transported to productive areas. This phenomenon leads to the loss of approximately 1,000 hectares of arable land.

“Viitor Plus” plants mix of species because they are more resistant over time and create a richer and more protective environment for biodiversity. In addition to improving soil quality and environmental benefits, the planted perimeter will contribute to cleaner air, more water in the soil, protection against the elements and an overall improvement in the quality of life for the local community.

“If each of us contributes to making the environment cleaner and better, we can achieve remarkable progress in environmental protection. It is our way of giving something back to nature, which gives us so much. Caring for the environment and society is a priority for Philips, and sustainability is a central pillar of our business principles. We started this campaign in 2022, together with the Viitor Plus association, and I can say that it was a real success. So far, we have planted over 14,800 saplings, saved land threatened by desertification and annually contribute to the absorption of 81,708 kg of CO2 – because one mature tree or four saplings can absorb over 22 kg of CO2 per year”, said Daciana Tulpan, Head of the Philips Personal Care Division.
