BSOG Energy, an energy company focused on developing biomethane production plants across Romania owned by Black Sea Oil & Gas, and Unigrains Trading, a company that manages approx. 3,300 hectares of cereal farming land in Constanta County and one of the main seed producers in the southern part of Romania, announce the signing of a cooperation agreement for a combined biomethane and biofertilizer production facility. The facility aims to produce 57 MW of biomethane and over 250,000 tons of organic fertilizers per year.

Under the co-operation agreement, Unigrains will provide the raw feedstock waste material for the production plant and will hold and manage the rights of the resulting fertilizers to the wholesale and retail markets.

BSOG Energy will be responsible for building, owning and operating the plant and managing the biomethane production.

The overall investment in the facility is estimated to exceed EUR 65 million, while project execution is expected to complete in approximately 2 years.

Mark Beacom (photo), Managing Director, BSOG Energy: “This exciting project represents the signing of the second biomethane plant by BSOG Energy for Romania. The cooperation with Unigrains is anticipated to provide BSOG Energy with another 57 MW of biomethane production. In removing organic waste from the environment and simultaneously developing green gas to displace natural gas and organic fertilizers to replace chemical fertilizers, we trust this project has the potential to significantly contribute to the energy sustainability of Romania.

The realization of this project requires a supportive regulatory framework, and we look forward to working together with the relevant authorities towards a shared goal of establishing large-scale biomethane developments in the country.

Black Sea Oil & Gas’ shareholders, global investment firm Carlyle, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, are fully supportive of this new venture.”

Theodor Ichim CEO of Unigrains Trading and President of The Forum of Professional Farmers and Processors of Romania (FAPPR): “Since 2018, recognizing the constraints of European regulations and climate challenges, we have adopted a hybrid-chemical and organic farming system for fertilization and treatments on our farm, which has achieved extraordinary results. We have transformed our soils into living organisms, allowing agricultural production to work in symbiosis with nature.

BSOG Energy’s proposal marks the peak of our agricultural strategy. In partnership with BSOG Energy, we look forward to providing a sustainable alternative, integrating our products with traditional technology, to produce high quality organic fertilizers and, ultimately, clean food.

Unigrains is also committed to raising awareness among Romanian farmers around this innovative initiative through the professional association FAPPR.

Experts from both Romania and abroad are developing advanced organic formulas derived from the digestion of organic waste, ensuring they contain essential nutrients for plant growth. Furthermore, we aim to enhance our products with organic cultures.

The partnership with BSOG Energy, Romania’s biomethane pioneer, serves as a solid foundation for the success of our joint project. I consider this project a true sanitation of Romania’s agriculture, eliminating efficiently agricultural waste, while also acting as a driving force for the growth of the circular economy.”
