Today, the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) announced the certification of AFV Beltrame Group’s base year emissions (Corporate Average Steel Emissions Intensity, CASEI) and science-based emission targets (Science-Based Emissions Targets, SBET). With this milestone, AFV Beltrame joins a growing coalition of steel producers demonstrating tangible and verifiable commitments to decarbonization.
The Global Steel Climate Council has officially certified the carbon footprint baseline and Science-Based Emission Reduction Targets (SBET) of AFV Beltrame Group. This significant milestone attests to the Group’s concrete commitment to the decarbonization of the steel sector.
The certification, obtained after rigorous independent verification conducted by RINA – multinational certification group operating in over 70 countries -, covers two fundamental aspects:
- Certification of the Group’s organizational carbon footprint (CASEI – Corporate Average Steel Emissions Intensity), with a base value in 2021 of 0.571 tons of CO₂e per ton of hot-rolled steel.
- Validation of medium and long-term decarbonization targets, respectively 0.457 tons of CO₂e per ton of steel by 2030 and 0.120 tons of CO₂e per ton of steel by 2050.
These targets are fully aligned with the GSCC Climate Standard for Steel and the Paris Agreement to contain global warming.
“As a leading company in the European steel industry, we have embraced the role of pioneers in the sector’s ecological transition, becoming the first in Europe, in the long products segment, to introduce Chalibria, our certified carbon-neutral steel, already in 2022. The certification obtained today from GSCC represents not only further confirmation of our commitment but also a clear manifestation of our dedication to transparency and operational effectiveness. AFV Beltrame Group is concretely demonstrating that production excellence can harmoniously coexist with environmental sustainability, extending this principle to the entire production chain. The certified goals we have set confirm the existence of a concrete and challenging decarbonization path, based on tangible and verifiable metrics, creating value for customers, collaborators, and the environment. Our collaboration with GSCC ensures that our steel products represent an authentic and reliable value proposition for all stakeholders“, Carlo Beltrame, Country Manager France & Romania, Group Chief Business Development Officer, AFV Beltrame Group.
“The Steel Climate Standard introduced by GSCC in 2023 represents a clear and globally recognized reference system that allows steel industries to quantify and disclose their emissions, ensuring annual autonomous verification and constant improvement in reducing carbon impact, in accordance with the latest scientific climate research. AFV Beltrame Group is particularly proud to be the first European steel producer to achieve this authoritative certification. This recognition allows us to guarantee the market a concrete and quantifiable commitment, facilitating our customers in their responsible purchasing decisions and contributing concretely to global efforts to achieve climate neutrality”, Raffaele Ruella, Chief Financial Officer & Head of Corporate Services, Managing Director AFV Beltrame Group.
“We are proud to have supported AFV Beltrame Group in achieving this important milestone, which led to both the certification of its baseline carbon footprint and the validation of the Group’s emission reduction targets. Our work is based on rigorous international standards, with the aim of ensuring transparency, credibility and measurability along the path to climate neutrality. This certification is a concrete example of how collaboration between industry and independent bodies can accelerate a sustainable transition”, Emanuele Castagno, Executive Vice President Certification of RINA.
